Orange Grove Center has a new recreational activity that derives from Latin roots. Zumba, a Latin, aerobic, dance, and workout was introduced during recreation classes in early June 2009.
The dance incorporates salsa, flamenco, and tango dancing techniques, which the students and adults in the classes seem to thoroughly enjoy. Courtney Mild, a certified Zumba instructor and Orange Grove volunteer, teaches weekly water ballet and the Latin workout. Each week, she alternates the two classes to give variety.
Every Wednesday there are two separate classes offered to students and adults. Fifteen students participated in the thirty-minute workout during the first week, followed by the adult class which had 10 participants.

Brandy Wilson, Orange Grove's recreation coordinator, believes that Zumba is a great activity for participants. The dance embodies repetitious movements that enable the dancers to recall the style of the dance. Currently, the tempo has been slowed to allow them to adapt to the movements. In the future, when they have better familiarity of the dance, the tempo will increase.
