Orange Grove Center and the City of Chattanooga initiated Curbside Recycling in 1992. Today, the City of Chattanooga is still our biggest Recycling partner! The City's dedication to Recycling and supporting our citizens with disabilities is unparalleled. Together, we continue to accomplish great success! We are committed to our mission here at Orange Grove Center: “to recognize, support, and celebrate the qualities of the individual.” And we love fulfilling this mission through the work of our Recycling Center.
Named in honor of a long-time OGC supporter and board member, the John F. Germ Recycling Center presently employs more than 130 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Workers not only enjoy an atmosphere of dignity, respect, and belonging, but also find meaningful employment that equips them with practical and marketable skills. These skills assist in opening employment doors in the broader community. Personal development, self-fulfillment, and community bridge-building are also highly valued.
A regional materials recovery facility, Orange Grove Recycling Center accepts recyclables from local municipality curbside programs, area drop-off centers, businesses, and schools throughout the tri-state area. We recycle aluminum cans, all grades of paper, steel cans, cardboard, plastic, and glass bottles.
We sort, separate, bale, and sell to regional recycling end markets. The result? Orange Grove Recycling diverts more than 1 million pounds of products each month from local landfills. That is something to celebrate!
