Orange Grove Center is unique among community agencies in that a full-service medical department is available on site for clients. Established in 1991, the Augustus McCravey Health Care Department provides quality medical and dental services. This multi-disciplinary department includes two nurse practitioners, RNS, one dentist and LPNs.
Other services provided from this department include health-related education, pre-employment physicals, medical laboratory procedures, as well as first aid. Health Care Services provides clinical rotation experience for local MD residency programs. Nursing programs from UTC, Chattanooga State, Cleveland State and Lee University also rotate through the various clinical areas. In addition, dental hygienist students receive on-site experience in the dental clinic.
In the fall of 2002, nurse practitioner students began using the clinic as part of their educational program. The health care services provided at OGC has earned recognition in the community as a whole. Individuals with the diagnosis of MR/DD are being referred for medical and dental care by local physicians and outside agencies.
